Upon discovering this month’s rescue by all your awesome recommendations, Double J Dog Ranch, I was very excited that we had been introduced to such a wonderful organization to support for the month of August and welcome into the you’ll find me with my dog family.
Double J Dog Ranch, a sanctuary for deaf/blind or disabled dogs was founded and is run by Cristene Justus. The rescue is based in Hauser Lake, Idaho. Her focus goes into each dog’s unique needs, including vet care, therapies, acupuncture, end of care life and nourishing their souls.
The dogs actually share Cristene’s home with her and have free roam of 50 acres, isn’t that great?!! They all experience a home environment vs institutional living whilst receiving care from a broad team of professionals. As many of us know a shelter environment can really affect some dogs long term so the fact that Cristene commits to opening her home up for them really thrilled us!
Each blind/deaf dog that is taken in by DJDR is put through a basic obedience course where they are trained in hand signals or touch prior to being adopted. This sets them up for successful placement in their new forever home.
DJDR’s quote reads ‘Special need pets are perfect in every way that matters’ which just sums up how special this organization is.
They provide a safe haven for those dogs that many times, get pushed aside as they are not considered to be the healthiest. We are so excited to support them this month and we look forward to giving you updates along the way!
